Sir,
This has reference to the news item “Coordinated efforts needed to make skill development gainful for youth” DE June 4.
The State is witnessing sharp rise in unemployment and this is a big issue which is worrying the Government and the society. Due to geographical and topographical factors the industrial sector has not flourished as it is in other States of the country. The Government remains the sole employer to a large number of unemployed. But even this agency too has become unattractive for people due to a number of reasons. Therefore, there is urgent need to open a number of skill development centres, where training will be imparted to aspirants, who after completing training will be able to start their own ventures, or will get employment at other palces. There is acute dearth of skilled manpower in the market. Industry in J&K has been hit due to this factor also. With the result, companies hire people from other states.
To meet the needs of industry, it is essential that skill development initiatives are launched on priority basis in the State.
It is quite reassuring that the Government is aware of the shortage of infrastructure in our ITIs and polytechnics and has initiated several steps to overcome it. It is expected that there will be no delay in equipping these centres with latest infrastructure.
Yours etc…
Tushar Mahajan
