UDHAMPUR, Dec 19: Up in arms against lack of basic facilities at new Bus Stand Udhampur, the local shopkeepers held a strong protest demonstration against the District administration and Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC).
The protesting shopkeepers raised slogans against the Municipal Committee and District administration for their failure to provide basic facilities like good condition road, drinking water, Lighting etc in the Bus Stand area.
They said that there were four illegal bus stands and mini bus stands in Udhampur town and the authorities were not taking any action in this regard. “These illegal bus stands at MH Chowk (for video coach buses), in front of Vishwakarma temple (for Doda and Kishtwar buses) and another at Slathia Chowk near Deputy Commissioner’s Office are causing traffic chaos in the Udhampur town but the authorities have turned a blind eye towards the same,” they alleged
However, on the other hand, the official bus stand area of 10 kanal 30 marlas is total ignored because of which the local shopkeepers are facing lot of problems, the protesters said and added that they had paid huge amount for getting shops in the area but the bus stand has not been formally shifted here even after 17 years.
They also demanded a probe into alleged misuse of Rs 7. 65 lakh, which were released in 2005 for illumination of the New Bus Stand area, which is still in dark.
