UDHAMPUR, Apr 11: Agitated over worst condition of the PWD road from Chenani to Champari, which has not been completed in more than a decade, local shopkeepers of Chenani today protested and also blocked the Chenani-Domail road for several hours.
Members of Vyapar Mandal closed their shops and assembled at Chenani Chowk (Chenani-Domail) where a strong protest was held along with some locals.
The protesting shopkeepers raised slogans against the district administration Udhampur and PWD alleging that completion of the 4-km long road was un-necessarily being delayed.
“The 4- km stretch from Chenani to Champari is in very bad condition and the situation can be gauged from the fact that people are not able to take sick old persons and pregnant women to Sub District Hospital Chenani,” they said and added that the school going children were also suffering as during the rainy day, the road gets totally closed.
Later, SDM Chenani Abdul Star, SDPO Chenani Ahmed Shafi and other officers rushed to the spot. They pacified the protestors by assuring that their grievance would be addressed soon. On their assurance, the protestors lifted the blockade and dispersed allowing restoration of vehicular traffic after six hours.
