Shopkeepers, people protest against police high-handedness

JAMMU, Oct 18: The shopkeeper and people held protest against police high handedness in Bakshi Nagar area.
As per sources, during patrolling a police team led by SDPO West Amit Kumar during anti-encroachment drive had verbal dual with a shopkeeper near Bakshi Nagar. In anguish, SDPO manhandled the shopkeeper.
On getting information, the relatives of the shopkeeper assembled and started protest against Police Department and were demanding action against SDPO West.
Later, other shopkeepers also joined the protest and reiterated their demand of taking action against SDPO West for harassing a shopkeeper without any fault.
The protesting shopkeepers and people also blocked the vehicular movement on the busiest Bakshi Nagar road.
After getting information, SP City Amritpal Singh rushed to the spot and had negotiation with the protesting people including shopkeepers. After negotiation, the protestors dispersed.
DySP Satish Kumar accompanying SP City Amritpal Singh told the EXCELSIOR that the cops tendered apology to the shopkeepers and the issue was sorted out. Later, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the road, he added.
