Shopkeepers, hoteliers, locals hold protest, block Jmu-Sgr NH

RAMBAN, Sept 25: The irate shopkeepers and hoteliers held protest here today against the management of Gammon India Private Limited, the company engaged for execution of work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, for not sprinkling water on the highway.
A large number of shopkeepers and hoteliers assembled near Bus Stand here and raised slogans against the management of the Gammon India Private Limited. Later, the locals also joined the protesting shopkeepers and hoteliers.
The protestors alleged that the management of the said company are playing with their health by not sprinkling water while doing execution work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
“All the dust particles emitted while doing execution work enters our shops and damages the goods. Some of the shopkeepers have fallen ill due to air pollution”, they added.
The protestors also blocked the vehicular movement on the highway, due to which hundreds of vehicles got stranded on the highway.
They further alleged that the management of the contractor companies and district administration has not taken any preventive measures to control the air pollution while executing work on the highway.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and assured the protestors to take up their demand with the concerned authorities for early redressal.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
