JAMMU, July 13: Growing up fast among many other institutions of higher learning in the Northern region, Shoolini University at Solan in Himachal Pradesh, has become the first such institution in the country to offer research programme at Undergraduate level in the professional course and offer job oriented programme in Yoga.

Addressing a press conference here today, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof P K Khosla disclosed that Shoolini University, which has the distinction of being India’s Ist Biotech Varsity with a proven high-impact research model, declares that the student of the region will have the advantage of taking up research from the first year onwards.
Elaborating further, Prof Khosla said, “It will be possible under a unique Undergraduate (B.Tech) Prog in Bio-technology where selected students will have the opportunity to pursue the Summit Reseach Program. Based on Harvard and Stanford Universities’ Model, the program provides first hand exposure to the high quality research in the global research environments, experience in writing and publishing papers and interaction with the acclaimed research scholars and experts from around the world. The Summit Research Prog is fully integrated with the regular engineering curriculum,” the VC maintained.
Referring to the induction of new Yoga faculty in the Varsity, Prof Khosla said this new programme has been launched keeping in view the importance being given to the Yoga in India and abroad. In the times to come, many universities, colleges, schools, hotels, resorts, hospitals etc will employ Yoga teachers/ professionals in the country and abroad.
Prof Khosla said the University has also announced unique skill driven programmes in eight new fields , which would be mentored by leading professionals with top industry leaders forming the visiting faculty. Students will be given practical on hands training to prepare them for job opportunities with top companies. The new courses include Legal studies ; BA LLB (5yrs) and LLB ( Hons) 3 years, Journalism, Digitial Journalism (11 months course), Management : PG Dip in Business Management (12 months), Agriculture: Four years B.Sc (Hons), Yoga: Three years B.Sc, Hotel Management : B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Admini-stration (3 yrs) and Pharmacy : Two years B Pharmacy (Practice). This Pharmacy Prog has been designed for Diploma holders working in Chemist shops or elsewhere to earn B. Pharma degree and improve professional skills.
