Sir,
As per the census report revealed by Chief Principal Census Officer Jammu and Kashmir has the third lowest sex ratio in the country. It’s 862 girls born for every 1000 boys. The figures revealed are quite shocking and underscores the fact that girl child is still discriminated in the region. More shocking is the attitude of educated man and women towards girls child who is still considered burden.
Unless people change attitude towards girl child, there will be further fall in the sex ratio which may not portend well for the society in the future.
In this direction, the Government and other agencies involved in saving the girl child have to work unitedly. Besides, the Government should implement the PNDT Act in letter and spirit. In this noble cause, the society members must seek the support of religious organisations and preachers.
On the other hand, people have to fight against crime against women whole heartedly. Once these steps are in place, one will expect that sex ratio in the State shows improvement.
Yours etc….
