UDHAMPUR, Feb 9: SHO Majalta was among six persons injured in a clash between Police and the locals who were protesting for Tehsil status to Jandrah Niabat, this evening at Manwal.
The injured SHO, Inspector Sanjeev Sharma, has been referred to GMC Hospital Jammu for treatment while others, including two cops and three civilians, were discharged after first aid at the local Primary Health Centre.
The trouble erupted around 6.30 pm when people from Jandrah and adjoining areas, who were dispersing off following their demonstrating on Dhar Road near Kishanpur Grid Station, turned violent after the SHO allegedly slapped one of the protesters.
After some heated exchange of words, the angry mob took on the cops and started pelting stones on them. Even as policemen initially tried to control the violent mob by resorting to lathicharge, soon they preferred to flee from the scene sensing trouble for them. In the melee, two cops and three civilians sustained injuries while the SHO got his wrist fractured.
Before the additional force was rushed to the spot, the violent mob had already dispersed off.
The injured SHO was rushed to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC Hospital Jammu for advanced treatment.
Even as Police has registered a case in this connection, no arrest was made till filing of the report.
Pertinent to mention here that people from Jandrah and adjoining areas are protesting for tehsil status to Jandrah.
Yesterday, also, some protesters were injured when police had resorted to mild cane charge.
