JAMMU, Apr 3: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) has issued a warning to the Central Government, demanding a time frame for the restoration of statehood. Failing this, the Party has declared its intention to hold peaceful protests by wearing black bands during the visits of Union Ministers to the region and observing a ‘Jumla Day’ in protest.
Addressing a press conference at the Party’s headquarters, state chief Manish Sahni urged the Modi Government to reinstate J&K’s statehood in the ongoing Parliament session. He criticized the Central Government for providing only verbal assurances over the past five years without any concrete action. Sahni pointed out that since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, no proposal for restoring statehood has been introduced in Parliament, and BJP MPs from Jammu have remained silent on the issue.
Highlighting the lack of political autonomy, Sahni questioned the Government’s claim that “all is well” when the region’s statehood remains unaddressed. He also noted that the J&K Police has been placed under the Union Home Ministry, further centralizing power. Recent administrative reshuffles by the Lieutenant Governor, bypassing elected representatives, reflect the erosion of democratic principles, he added.
Sahni warned that if the Government does not announce a specific timeline for restoring statehood, Shiv Sainiks will stage peaceful protests during the upcoming visit of Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union Ministers. Protesters will wear black bands, and the day will be observed as ‘Jumla Divas’ (Jumla Day). He also appealed to the public to join the movement by wearing black bands as a mark of protest.
Party leader Rohan Malwal was also present during the press conference.
