JAMMU, Feb 25: On the eve of Maha Shivratri, a grand ‘Shiv Baraat’ procession was taken out in Jammu City with religious fervour and gaiety, here today.
Amidst chanting of Bhajans and religious slogans in praise of Lord Shiva, the procession started from Shri Ranbireshwar Mandir near Shalamar Chowk and passed through main bazaars of the Old City before culminating at the starting point.
People of all age groups participated in the `Shiv Baraat’ procession and were seen dancing on the drum beats. Devotees and artists attired as Lord Shiva as well as other Hindu Gods and displaying mythical scenes of `Shiv Baraat’, were main attraction of the procession. Children and youngsters in the procession were attired as `Shiv Sevaks’ and various forms of Lord Shiva.

The impressive procession was led by chariot of Lord Shiva followed by various tableaus of religious and social organizations. After passing through City Chowk, Indira Chowk, Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar Chowk, Residency Road, Shahidi Chowk, Rajinder Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Old Hospital Road, Purani Mandi, Link Road, Jain Bazar, Chowk Chabutra, Mubarak Mandi, Panjtirthi, Pacca Danga and Parade Chowk, the procession finally culminated back at Ranbireshwar Temple.
The religious procession was organized by Shri Ranbireshwar Mandir Welfare Committee (SRMWC) with the active cooperation of Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust. MLA Jammu East, Yudhvir Sethi among several prominent persons took part in the `Shiv Baraat’ procession.
People enroute greeted the procession by showering flowers on the chariot of Lord Shiva while welcome gates were erected by bazaar associations at various places to greet the Baraat. Various traders, religious organizations of the Old City had organized Bhandaras at various places for the devotees.
For smooth conduct of the religious process, the administration had also made elaborate arrangements, besides ensuring adequate deployment of Police en route to avoid any untoward incident.
