JAMMU, Oct 17: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is visiting border areas of Jammu on October 22 to review situation due to escalated tensions on the International Border (IB) in the wake of September 26 fidayeen attack and today’s heavy firing and shelling in RS Pura and Pargwal sectors.
Principal Secretary (Home) Suresh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu, IG BSF SS Tomar and IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar today visited forward areas of Paharpur in Hiranagar sector and Pansar in Samba sector to identify the spots for the visit of Mr Shinde and make elaborate security arrangements for the visit.
Official sources said Mr Shinde was likely to visit forward post of Paharpur from where three militants had reportedly infiltrated on September 26 and carried out twin terror attacks at Hiranagar police station and Mehsar Army camp killing 10 persons before being eliminated by the troops. He might also visit Pansar post in Samba.
Sources said Mr Shinde was likely to hold a high level meeting with top brass of para-military forces, Intelligence agencies, civil administration and police to review the situation on the borders and hinterland before flying back to New Delhi the same evening.
