This has reference to a news item published in your esteemed paper on 18 Apr 2016 as reported by Nishikant Khajuria. The tone of the language suggests it to be a complaint against the authorities. The Art treasure displayed for general public may not be considered as sole propriety of a region. Our state altogether consists of three main provinces namely Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. It appears to me that for better understanding of these different regions of the state, display of art treasure should not be restricted and limited to parent area only. We all are well wisher of our home state as one part of the great Indian Union. Hence, the fourth estate namely media has a very responsible role in keeping up the unity and integrity of the state. We are passing through a very crucial period in the history. A clear mandate that appeared region wise in last election have further deepened the gap between Valley and Jammu regions. We should therefore carry out an objective assessment of the topic before making them public.
However, the reasons cited are technical by nature. Paucity of space and likewise pleas may not be advanced as this leaves some doubt in the mind of reader whether these reasons are advanced as cover story or otherwise. Art treasure of all the regions are varying in nature and their merger and joint display at all the state galleries will convey a sense of togetherness and also stand witness to the fact that unity lies in diversity. The cultural and artistic variables are the gifts of nature to us and their merger will stand out clearly. There are efforts being made to improve tourist spots through out the state and a conscious effort in this regard can attract tourists through out the year with out any climatic restriction. This would not only enhance the scope of tourism but also keep us on tourist map through out the year. Display of State cultural heritage through art will definitely enhance our image as a whole no matter as to what the location of art gallery is.
