Shift Qayoom to hygienic ward: HC

Srinagar Feb 14: The High Court today directed the jail authorities to shift the ailing High Court Bar Association Mian Abdul Qayoom to a hygienic ward and ensure all medical facilities to him in accordance with jail manual.
Hearing the appeal challenging the writ Court judgment whereby Qayoom’s detention was upheld, the Division Bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Sindhu Sharma directed the jail authorities to provide the detenue all medical facilities as also shift him to some hygienic ward or barrack keeping in view his deteriorating health conditions.
The bench after admitting the appeal of Qayoom issued notice to Government for filing of response to the appeal by or before March 9.
Meanwhile, the concerned Jail Superintendent in Tihar Jail has been directed to allow ZA Shah, Senior Advocate as being the counsel of the detenue, to have a meeting with Qayoom after due adherence to the provisions of the Jail Manual.
As regards shifting of the detenue to some other jail, Court said the same is not within the domain of the Court and, as such, asked the respondents to file response to the said relief sought for by the appellant.
