JAMMU, Oct 19: The activists of Sher-e-Dugger Brigade held a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan here, today protesting against the Custodian Department and demanded its immediate disbanding.
The demonstration was led by Karan Singh vice president of Jammu district BJP. Addressing the protestors, he said it is most unfortunate that after the partition of the country the Government set up the Custodian Department to act as the custodian of the properties called Evacuee Property.
He said though these properties were lent out to the people of Jammu but they were not given any right and they were since then agitating for the grant of ownership rights.
Karan Singh said the people who are living in custodian houses do not have even a right to construct a wall in case it gets collapsed due to floods etc. Terming it an injustice he said the people will not tolerate this any more.
He expressed the hope that good sense will prevail on the Government and it will fulfill the long pending demand of disbanding Custodian Department by granting all property rights to tenants.
Sher-e-Duggar Brigade president Gourav Agnihotri declared that their organization will not sit as mute spectator and continue its struggle till demand is met and tenants of Custodian Department get the property rights.
