LEH, Jan 15: After signing the MoU with Union Ministry of Education to implement Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), the Administration of Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh here today has constituted State Higher Education Council (SHEC) for Ladakh.
Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Ladakh will be the chairman of SHEC and Advisor to the LG will be vice chairman while there will be 18 other member also in the Council.
The other 18 members include Administrative Secretary, School Education Department; Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department; State Project Director RUSA, VC University of Ladakh, VC Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh; Nominee of Government of India, Director College Affairs, University of Ladakh, (will be member secretary); Deskyong Namgyal, Educationist and Administrator (currently Controller of Examinations, University of Ladakh); Kaneez Fatima, Educationist and Administrator (currently Rector, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh); Prof. Ashok Sharma, University of Science and Technology, Murthal, Haryana (former Registrar, University of Ladakh), (he will be Member from outside UT); Principal, Government Degree College Kargil; Principal, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh; Principal, Government Polytechnic College, Leh; Principal, Government Polytechnic College, Kargil; Sonam Wangchuk, Director and Founder, HIAL; K. Asfandyar Khan, Author and Scholar Member; Prof. Talak Ahmed (former VC University of Kashmir), (Member from Outside UT) and Mipham Otsal, Director Ladakh Theatre Organisation.
The newly constituted SHEC will perform many functions prominent among which include offering guidance and advice on formulation of policy for the comprehensive and holistic transformation of Higher Education sector in tune with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
The SHEC will also advice the government, universities, research institutions and other Centres of Higher Education in Ladakh for formulating and implementing policies.
Another important function of SHEC is that it will become the guiding force for smooth implementation of PM-USHA in higher education institutions of Ladakh.
