POONCH, July 9: Dr Shazad Malik, former Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University and a native of border town Mendhar, has urged the Union Home Ministry to order a high level probe in bunker construction scam in district Poonch wherein millions of rupees of Tax payers are drained and no accountability is fixed.
While making an appeal to the Union Government to take stringent action against the enemy of India killing civilians, he also accused the district administration of Poonch of not taking appropriate action for safeguarding the lives of innocent civilians.
Shazad informed that Government of India has given hundreds of crores of rupees for construction of bunkers in border areas of J & K including district Poonch but no rules and guidelines were followed in allotment and construction of these bunkers in Block Mendhar and Balakote, the frontline border areas of Poonch.
He said the district administration Poonch without following codal formalities and bypassing set rules shifted and transferred bunkers from one Panchayat to other and from one department to other just to pamper and to provide financial benefits to their own blue eyed people. He alleged that several bunkers in Poonch are made above the ground whereas as per guidelines, the bunkers should be underground.
Expressing grief over the death of an elderly women of Sagra village of Balakote who was killed on Tuesday night in cross border shelling in village Lanjote wherein she was on visit to her relatives, Shazad said: “Civilians living in border area are frontline guard of India’s sovereignty and territorial defense.”
