JAMMU, Sept 25: Sharply increasing Dengue cases in Jammu region of the State have enhanced the problems of the State Government and the Health Department, Jammu, which though is claiming that it is fully prepared to handle any situation yet has failed completely to control the spread of this vector-borne disease, which has till now taken into its fold 17 people from various districts of Jammu region.
According to Health experts, the Dengue is not a dreaded disease but due to lack of awareness the people are falling prey of it. “The most important thing which is needed to check the spread of this disease is awareness regarding the disease among the common people but the State Government as well as Health Department have totally failed in this as a result of which this vector-borne disease is spreading its wings in whole of Jammu region”, the experts said.
“The second thing which should be done to control this fast spreading disease is to stop the breeding of Dengue mosquitoes which can be done by fogging and releasing anti-larva fishes in still water bodies like ponds, which are the breeding place of Dengue mosquitoes”, the Health experts added.
Though the Health Department is claiming that it is keeping a hawk’s eye on the situation and various steps and preventive measures had already been taken to control the spread of Dengue in all districts of Jammu region but the rising number of Dengue cases is revealing another story.
According to Director Health Jammu BS Pathania, the department has started fogging in various areas of Jammu City besides spraying in neighbourhood houses of those who have been tested positive for Dengue. Moreover, anti-larva fishes are being discharged in stationary water bodies in all the districts of Jammu region”, Dr Pathania added.
He further disclosed that in all the district hospitals both men and machinery are fully prepared to tackle any eventuality. “All the districts have been provided with testing kits in advance and the staff trained so that patients do not have to suffer or depend only on Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for Dengue test. Though there is no need to create isolation wards but every district hospital has created an isolation ward of at least 10 beds”, he added.
“In Jammu we are not now dependent on GMCH only for conducting tests, as the testing facility is now also available in Government Hospital Sarwal and Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar,” Dr Pathania claimed.
