JAMMU, Nov 4: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) today appealed both the BJP MPs from Jammu region to take up Displaced Persons’ one time settlement issue seriously with the Government as recommended by JPC, headed by Venkaiah Naidu, who is now Vice-President of India.
In a largely attended meeting of JKSAC, held at Rohi Morh, R S Pura Road, Jammu, the speakers, namely Capt Kundan Lal, Sushil Kumar (Sarpanch), Sarpanch Chatta Panchayat, Prof Nain Singh, Avtar Singh Pilot, Master Jagbir Singh and Roshan Lal, reiterated that DPs have played a significant role to elect these MPs and now it was there turn to reciprocate their faith reposed in them twice by taking their settlement issue forward in a planned manner for its final resolution with a missionary zeal besides their other responsibilities.
While addressing the meeting, Gurdev Singh, President JKSAC, said that with the creation of Union Territory, the people of J&K particularly DPs of 1947 from PoK have entered into new era with the hope that adequate measure would be taken by the incumbent Government as well as the Central Government to end their sufferings of past seven decades. “It is the most appropriate time for both the Government s to set right the wrongs committed by Valley centric previous dispensations of NC and Congress in respect of DPs of PoK,” he added.
He further said that Hindu/Sikh DPs of 1947 from PoK were discriminated deliberately with certain ulterior motives of previous Governments, which derailed their issues and put them in quagmire of chaos and confusion. Reiterating the demands of DPs, like compensation of their left out properties, constitutional right of Assembly seats of their share, reservation for their wards in Government jobs and technical institutions, etc, Gurdev Singh emphasized that early and effective measures should be taken to rectify the wrongs done in connection with their legitimate rehabilitation.
The JKSAC appealed to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to once again show their strong will to settle the long pending issue of DPs as per JPC report to safeguard their aspirations and future of their coming generations. The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Netar Parkash.
