JAMMU, July 10: Haar Navmi ‘birthday of Mata Sharika’ was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety today.
The main function was organized at Chakreshwar in Old City Srinagar, the abode of Goddess Sharika in which a large number of devotees drawn from different parts of Valley and Jammu participated. On the occasion special prayers were held for world peace and human prosperity besides return of normalcy in Kashmir valley.
Goddess Sharika at Hari Parbhat is the presiding deity of Kashmiri Pandits. To maintain the tradition the night long singing of devotional hymns were held at Chakreshwar in praise of Jagatamba Sharika Bhagwati besides the traditional Tehar was also offered to Goddess.
As per tradition the devotees used to circumambulate the hill lock starting from the shrine of Lord Ganesh (commonly known as Ganishun) by Kashmiri Pandits to Kathi Darwaza.
Today day- long function was held and speakers threw light on the significance of the day as well as Shriyantra. Sharika Bhagwati is represented by a Soyumbhu Shrichakra on the Shila of Hari Parvat. The Shrichakra is also known as Maha Maha Shrichakra and Maha Shriyantra.
There is a belief that it is because of Srichakra that the Capital City of Srinagar has got its name as Shrinagri.
The function was organized by Jagatamba Chakreshwar Sharika Sanstha led by Roop Krishan Koul. BJP State spokesperson, Kashmir, Ashwani Chrungoo, social activist Murari Kaul and others were also present on the occasion.
Another function was held at Sharika Peeth Sanastha ,Subash Nagar, Jammu. “Pushp Archana “ and Samohik Puja was performed today in the main sanctum of Mata Sharika. Large number of devotees participated in the function which was attended by prominent persons and devotees from the vicinity.
The function was organised under the chairmanship of M K Jalali, president of the Sanstha.
Special prayers were offered for the welfare of society and in particular for community in exile and their honourable return to their homeland.
Prasad was also distributed amongst the devotees.
Sharika Jayanti was also celebrated at Jagatamba Sharika Peeth, Dhok Paloura where a large number of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu participated in special prayers held on the occasion.
The devotees were served prashad after culmination of the function.
The birthday of Mata Sharika was also celebrated at Amritkund Pukhribal, Mata Sharika Bhagwati temple Kral Bab Nagar, Bantalab near, here where the devotees performed the pooja of Shri Chakra Yantra.
