Shantmanu inspects Carpet Training Centre

GANDERBAL, Sept 6 : The Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Shantmanu today inspected the Carpet Training Centre at Gouzhama, Ganderbal which has been established by the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT), Srinagar.
The centre is imparting skill upgradation training in carpet manufacturing on modern carpet looms under Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The Director, IICT, Srinagar Zubair Ahmad informed the Commissioner Secretary that the institute has launched four months Certificate Courses in Carpet Manufacturing (CCCM) with the objective to develop a trained human resource for the carpet industry across the eight districts of Kashmir division and 4200 persons (105/district/year) will be trained over a period of 5 years under the scheme.
The Director further informed that an amount of Rs. 1000/- month is being paid as a stipend to each trainee for which each trainee has to open/ operate bank account during the training period. It was further informed that besides training, the Institute is also facilitating the outgoing trainees in getting themselves registered with the Handicrafts Department so that Artisan Registration Card is issued to each artisan by virtue of which the registered artisan becomes eligible for availing benefits from various developmental/welfare schemes of the concerned department. The trainees are also being awarded about the standard procedure of forming SHG/ Cluster/Cooperative Society and the benefits available under the relevant schemes for such type of groups.
Speaking after the distribution of Artisan Registration Cards, Monthly Stipend and Course Completion Certificates, the Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department appreciated the pivotal role being played by IICT, Srinagar for the revival/development of the carpet industry and expressed the hope that the Institute will continue to work with the same zeal and dedication. He assured that the Govt will extend full support to the Institute in this endeavor
Besides trainees, Coordinator,  Asif Gowhar Khan, two Instructors and few members of Panchayati Raj Institutions were also present on the occasion.
