Shamas main coordinator of Hyderpora attack

SRINAGAR, Sept 10:    Army today claimed that the Chief Coordinator of the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit who was arrested from North Kashmir’s Pattan town yesterday was the main coordinator for the Hyderpora attack against an Army convoy in June this year in which 8 Army personnel were killed.
Army described the arrest of Manzoor Ahmad, alias Shamas Bhai a major breakthrough. Shamas Bhai, was arrested in Pattan area by Army and police yesterday.
Army said Shamas was instrumental in managing the finances of the LeT and had even been issuing threats Panchs and Sarpanchs. “A pistol and four mobile phones were recovered from him”, said Army.
The Army said that investigation revealed that he was the main coordinator of the Hyderpora attack against Army convoy. He was also coordinating the financial transactions of the LeT.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt General Gurmit Singh, commended the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police for the sustained intelligence, tracking the militant, and the swift and surgical operation resulting into the apprehension of the Shamas Bhai who had been operating since 1990.
