AKHNOOR, Dec 9: Reiterating his demand of granting regional autonomy to Jammu province to ensure equitable and balanced development in all regions  and sub-regions of the State, former minister and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma today cautioned people against those forces which are hell bent to divide Jammu on the religious line.
Addressing a function to felicitate elected Sarpanches and Panches of Akhnooor area, Sham Lal said that it was high time for all pro-Jammu forces to come on same plate form to launch a deciding battle for getting regional autonomy. He asserted that Akhnoor is going to play an import role in shaping future of coming generations of Jammu region. He argued that only regional autonomy would end discrimination against Jammu region.
“History is testimony to the fact that foundation of Dogra dynasty, which ruled J&K for nearly 100 years, was laid at the bank of the river Chenab in Akhnoor when Maharaja Ranjeet Singh had coronated first Dogra ruler Maharaja Ghulab Singh”, Sharma recalled, adding, “Now Akhnoor is again going to play an important role.”
“Battle to end discrimination with Jammu region will be taken to the logical conclusion”, Sharma said but cautioned the people against leaders like Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, who are hell bent to divide Jammu on religious lines just to pursue ‘divide and rule’ policy in Jammu.
Former minister criticized Governor Satya Pal Malik for issuing political  appointments in KVIB at the behest of BJP and described it as a sheer political opportunism of the ruling party. “It is glaring example of violating all norms and setting new precedents. It is first time in the history that Governor is making political appointments”, he said and added that recent appointments in KVIB, is an example how BJP is hell bent to erode the different institutions  through its  `own Governor’.
Former MP, Madan Lal Sharma said that previous regime gave mis-governance. Even the developmental works under process during the Congress-NC Government were put on hold. He said that the people were deprived of basic amenities like ration, drinking water and electricity etc. The people were feeling cheated by voting BJP. He further said that people wanted change. He exhorted upon the elected Sarpanches and Panches to work hard for the development of their respective areas.
