Poonch, Mar 13: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma in his election tour to Rajouri and Poonch has sought support for Congress candidate Madan Lal Sharma.
During the tour, the Minister appealed the people to support the joint candidature of Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency, Madan Lal Sharma in the election. He said two-time MP from the Jammu-Poonch segment has done lot of development in these twin districts and people should give him one more opportunity to accomplish the unfinished tasks. He said the elections are being fought by the two main parties Congress and National Conference under an alliance arrangement which is in the best interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said both the coalition partners are trusted parties and have proved very useful for the State.
Maintaining that ‘coalition’ is need of the hour, Mr Sharma said, this arrangement is also in the interests of people of the State. He highlighted the achievements of the UPA Government at the Centre and said that several landmark decisions have been taken for the welfare of the common man, especially for the backward classes, and poor sections of the society. Food Security Bill, RTI Act, MGNREGA, Land Acquisition Law and steps for empowering the PRIs were some of the important decisions taken by the UPA Government which are people friendly and for the welfare of people.
Making a scathing attack on the BJP and PDP, the Minister said that both these parties play the politics of vote bank and play with the sentiments of innocent people. The party is starving for the power only and when it was in power it did least for the people. Similarly, the BJP’s role remained dubious in the state and they are losing the ground. BJP’s credentials are known to all and they believe in disintegrate the society in the name of religion which is dangerous for the pluralistic society of our country. He asked the people to thwart the nefarious design of such forces. He asked the people to show a united face and bring UPA regime in power again which will bring prosperity and development in the country and State, said the Minister.
At Mendhar, some party workers disrupted meeting and raised slogans. Police had to intervene to control situation.
Vice Chairman, OBC Advisory Board, Kuldeep Verma, local leaders, including MLA and Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Javed Rana, MLA, Nowshera and Vice Chairman, Kissan Welfare Advisory Board, Radhey Sham Sharma, MLC, Ravinder Sharma, Vice Chairman, Gujjar & Bakerwals Advisory Board, Bashir Naz, MLA Poonch, Ajaz Jan, MLC, Jehangir Mir, former Minister, Dr. Ramesh Chander Sharma, Cogngress District President, Rajouri Sain Abdul Rashid, Congress District President, Poonch, Rajinder Singh, youth Congress leaders, Sarpanchs and Panchs of both the districts also accompanied the Minister.
Meanwhile, Member Parliament Jammu Poonch Constituency Madan Lal Sharma called upon the vendors & ‘khokha walas’ to cast their vote for Congress as Congress led UPA has passed the street vendors (Protection of livelihood and regulation of street Vending) Bill which is applicable for protecting the rights of self employed youths and vendors who earn at their own and are not demanding Government jobs.
He said that street vendors can earn their livelihood with dignity and honor as the vendors’ bill has an overriding effect on all laws and acts of police and Municipal Corporations who use to harass them citing several of their acts. The Bill has a mandatory provision to form town vending committees with 40 percent representation from vendor organizations.
MP said that Central & State Government have devised and implemented schemes for urban poor by way of providing them shelter under RGAY & health cover and check up under National Urban Health Mission.
Under the present regime Municipal Corporation has devised many programmes for the beautification of Jammu. Mr. Sharma added that there are many issues which requires attention of the Government and assured that if he is voted back as MP he will strengthen the voice of Jammu in the Parliament. He was addressing public meeting in Jammu today.
