JAMMU, Feb 7: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma, today presided over an awareness camp at Mishriwala, organized by the J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) to promote entrepreneurship and employment opportunities, especially for women and marginalized communities.
Speaking at the event, Sharma praised KVIB’s efforts in supporting self-employment and stressed the importance of increasing awareness about Government schemes.
He highlighted that with proper planning, investment, and support, the sector could play a major role in economic growth and improving livelihoods.
Sharma encouraged youth and women to actively participate in these employment-oriented initiatives.
He also commended the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose Government, according to him, has introduced transformative self-employment schemes aimed at empowering individuals, reducing unemployment, and boosting the country’s economy.
The MLA emphasized that these schemes not only create job opportunities but also contribute to the economic empowerment of individuals, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
“By promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship, the initiatives can reduce reliance on Government jobs, boost small-scale industries, and strengthen the region’s socio-economic structure,” the BJP MLA said.
At the event, the Deputy CEO of the Jammu Division gave a detailed presentation on key Government schemes such as the J&K Rural Employment Generation Programme (JKREGP) and the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
These credit-linked subsidy programs, according to him, provide financial assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs through an easy online application process.
During the event, the Modified Market Development Assistance (MMDA) scheme was also discussed, offering incentives to Khadi artisans to improve productivity and competitiveness.
The event saw the participation of KVIB officials, banking representatives, and a large number of young entrepreneurs and job seekers, who explored ways to benefit from these schemes for economic upliftment.
