Jammu, July 8:     Former Minister and Senior Vice President PCC Sham Lal Sharma has criticized the move of State Government to close down large number of schools under the plan of rationalization and said that it would create hardships to children and parents in rural areas.
Addressing a meeting of party workers at Akhnoor to take stock of problems of people from different parts of Akhnoor constituency, he said that move to close down about 104 schools in Akhnoor constituency alone, is arbitrary and against the overall interest of students and people, as most of these schools were opened as per norms of Government of India of availability of schools in nearest locality at the distance of about one kilometer, in order to achieve the total literacy target and check drop out rate.
Mr. Sharma also referred certain announcements with regard to certain ongoing/already sanctioned projects and regretted that adequate allocations of funds have not been made in District Development Board meeting, held recently. He said that number of department projects which were in pipeline have not been considered which goes against the interest of people.
Senior Congress leader also lashed-out at the present dispensation and representatives of people of Jammu, for their failure to come up to the expectations of common people, with regard to their day to day problems on account of power and water supply. He strongly criticized the Government for the erratic power supply in the entire Jammu region and unscheduled and long duration cuts besides long delays being caused to replace damaged and burnt transformers in different locations in rural and semi urban areas. The people are suffering a lot during this scorching heat and the holy month of Ramzan, he added.
Mr. Sharma said that BJP-PDP Government has failed to respect the genuine aspirations of the Jammu region and held the BJP Ministers and legislators mainly responsible for compromising the mandate of people for the sake of power.
Urging the people to remain united to struggle for the due rights and to check the sell-out of people for sharing power only by few leaders of BJP, Senior congress leader said that all right thinking people and civil society is of opinion that BJP has betrayed the electorate and surrendered for the sake of power.
Mr. Sharma warned the Centre and State Government against ignoring the genuine demands of Jammu region regarding setting up of AIIMS and number of other prestigious developmental projects which are vital for different parts of Jammu province. He took stock of various problems of people of the area and assured them to take up issues with the concerned authorities for their redressal.
