Asks youth to follow their footsteps
JAMMU: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today urged upon the youth to take inspiration from the supreme sacrifice of the freedom fighters and asked them to follow their footsteps to take the country on the path of progress.
The Minister said this while addressing the gathering in a function organized by Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Committee to mark Shaheedi Divas at RS Pura.
Paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters, the Minister said we should never forget the supreme sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and others who laid down their lives for releasing the country from the clutches of imperial rule.
MLA, RS Pura Gagan Bhagat was also present on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said the unsung heroes of the country have taught deep love and affection for one’s motherland. There is a need to encourage youth to follow the path shown by these martyrs, he added.
Later, the Minister also paid tributes to son of soil, Naib Subedar Hans Raj, Virchakra awardee in acknowledgment of his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on March 23, 1984.
In his address, the Minister urged the youth to play an active role in nation building by contributing their share in various schemes like Swacch Bahart Abhiyan, Digital India, Khelo India and Smart Cities.
On the occasion, he also created awareness among the people regarding compensation to PoK Displaced Persons and said that the process of distribution would be simplified so that people don’t face any difficulty in getting their due right.
Later, the Minister also inspected the ongoing desilting works on Distributary D-11 and Main Ranbir canal at Babliana and Dharap Escape. He directed the officers to expedite the pace of ongoing works and complete them within stipulated time frame so that farmers get uninterrupted water supply for irrigation purposes.
