RAMBAN, Dec 27: The newly constructed 348 meters long Shalgari-Sherbibi tunnel, New Tunnel-2 (NT2) and road stretch leading to it has been opened for two-way traffic on Wednesday.
An engineer of the company CVPPL, engaged for the construction of the tunnel by NHAI informed that the work on the tunnel was complete and the same was opened for two-way traffic on Wednesday evening.
The work on Shalgari-Sherbibi New Tunnel-2 on Ramban-Banihal section of the four-lane project was started in the year 2022 on the direction of administration.
Sources said that the tunnel was opened for two-way traffic on trail basis.
All the traffic was diverted through the newly constructed Shalgari-Sherbibi Tunnel on Ramban-Banihal section of four-lane project on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The tunnel will bypass a curvy stretch and would help in reducing the travel time between Banihal and Ramban on Jammu Srinagar National Highway.
The road expansion work on the old road alignment for additional two-lane road stretch has also been started.
Traffic officials informed that traffic was plying smoothly through the newly constructed Sahlgari-Sherbibi tunnel.
