THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eminent filmmaker Shaji N Karun has been selected for this year’s ‘Baburao Painter Award’ for his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema.
The award will be presented to Karun at the opening ceremony of the Kolhapur International Film Festival (KIFF), being organised by Kalamaharshi Baburao Painter Film Society, on December 22, a release said.
Past recipients of the award include Shyam Benegal (2013), Rajdatta (2014) and Girish Kasaravalli (2015),it said.
A retrospective of three award-winning films of Karun, who garnered a number of national and international honours for his movies, including iconic film ‘Piravi’, would also be screened during the eight-day festival, which will conclude on December 29.
The society has been organising the festival since 2012 to commemorate the centenary of Indian cinema. (AGENCIES)
