It is a matter of great relief that Shahpur Kandi Project is going to become a reality. Both the Governments- Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir deserve to be commended for taking initiative in this regard. The matter needs to be pursued to its logical end so that the people living in Kathua and Samba will get benefitted.
It may not be out of context to mention here that people in Kandi belt face numerous problems on account of shortage of water in the area. Water shortage is perennial problem here. As more and more water is drawn out from tube wells, the ground water level is depleting drastically. In case this water table is not replenished well in time, either through rain water harvesting technique or any other method, people will have to face harsh days in the future.
