SRINAGAR, Feb 7 : Janta Dal United (JDU), Jammu & Kashmir, president G M Shaheen today made a strong and urgent appeal to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, to take decisive action toward launching a direct train service between Delhi and Srinagar.
In a statement issued, Shaheen stated that direct rail connectivity with the national capital is a strategic requirement for Jammu & Kashmir, directly linked to tourism growth, economic revival and ease of movement for travelers, students, traders and pilgrims.
He stressed that while progress in railway infrastructure has been acknowledged, the absence of a seamless Delhi–Srinagar train continues to limit the full potential of these developments.
“Jammu & Kashmir cannot be promoted as a major tourism destination without ensuring simple, direct and affordable access. A direct train from Delhi to Srinagar would be a transformative step, instantly strengthening tourism confidence and public convenience,” Shaheen said.
He emphasized that improved rail connectivity would send a powerful message of unity and accessibility, encouraging domestic tourism and reducing dependency on costly and weather-dependent travel alternatives.
“Connectivity defines confidence. When access is smooth, growth follows,” he added.
The JDU leader urged the Railway Ministry to prioritize this demand with a clear roadmap and timeline, noting that timely execution would significantly benefit local livelihoods, hospitality businesses and the broader regional economy.
