JAMMU, July 5: The 17th Shaheedi Diwas of Shaheed Veer Udhayamaan Singh (Sena Medal) was observed at his native village Shama Chack(Jhiri) today.
Addressing the large gathering, Major Bhagat Singh, CO 5 Garh R/F said, while conquering the Tiger Hills during operation Vijay in Kargil Sector, the 18th Grandiers has lost their eight brave soldiers on the intervening night of July 4 & 5, 1999.
Due to supreme sacrifice of eight brave soldiers, Udhayamaan Singh was one of them. Due to the supreme sacrifice of Singh and his fellow soldiers the Indian Army retained back the Tiger Hills, which was the turning point of the Operation Vijay.
Sukhandan K Choudhary, MLA Marh, Ajai Singh, senior Manager, HPCL, Bari Brahamana, Narayan Singh, president, Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, J&K, SDM Marh also addressed during Shaheedi Samaroh function.
Kanta Devi and Omkar Singh, parents of Udhayamaan Singh distributed notebooks to the students who presented cultural programme during the function. Besides, notebooks were also distributed among the poor students of locality.
The clothes were also distributed among the poor ladies.
