The shopkeepers downed their shutters today and gathered in the market to express their displeasure with the decision to close it to vehicular traffic.
The traders claimed that the closure of the road had harmed them for the previous two years. “We have been suffering losses since 2014; how will we run our business if customers are unable to walk through our market?” President, Shaheed Gunj Traders Federation, Raja Fida Hussian Khan, said.
He said that this is not a diversion, but rather a road closure. “We have families to feed, and this road is essential to our business. How will we be able to survive if this road does not open normally? If being a Srinagar shopkeeper is a crime, we must be punished immediately,” he said.
