JAMMU, Feb 17: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the status of implementation of new Criminal Laws in Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi at a high-level meeting tomorrow.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti and Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat will attend the meeting among others. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and MHA officials Incharge Jammu and Kashmir will be present.

This is the first meeting of the Union Home Ministry during over four months of formation of new political Government in Jammu and Kashmir which will be attended by the Chief Minister though Omar has met Amit Shah thrice individually. Previous meetings by the MHA were related to security situation only and the CM was not present as law and order in J&K is directly handled by the Central Government.
Implementation of new Criminal Laws in Jammu and Kashmir becomes significant especially in dealing with terrorists, Over Ground Workers (OGWs), separatists etc to crush the terrorism. Few days back, the Lieutenant Governor had directed that those aiding and abetting terrorism in the UT should also be treated like the terrorists.
Sinha and Omar reached New Delhi today ahead of tomorrow’s meeting called by the Home Minister.
Sinha met Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and discussed with him the opportunities for mineral exploration in the region and importance of harnessing these resources.
This will be Shah’s fourth meeting on Jammu and Kashmir this month.
He held security review meetings on Jammu and Kashmir situation on February 4, 5 and 11.
The meetings were attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials of MHA, Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police and civil administration.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, respectively.
The new laws came into effect from July 1 last year.
Shah has already reviewed the status of the implementation of the new laws in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
