Shab-e-Baraat observed

Srinagar, Mar 29: Amid fears of a fresh wave of COVID-19 there has been no religious congregation on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat in Jamia Masjid Srinagar while local Mosques are abuzz.
The Shab-e-Baraat congregation, scheduled to be held at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar today after night prayers, has been cancelled in view of the fresh wave of COVID-19, the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar announced here.
“Besides due to Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir’s continued house detention, since August 2019, Majlis waz o tableeg led by him cannot take place’, the statement issued here said.
“The Shab-e-Baraat congregation, stands cancelled in view of the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and medical experts in wake of the resurgence of COVID-19 cases”, it said.
Anjuman has appealed people to religiously follow the COVID-19 guidelines and pray at their individual level for refuge from the deadly virus.
However, in local mosques the night long prayers are being held. People are offering special prayers during this night.
Shab-e-Baraat is observed on 14th night of Islamic calendar month, Shabaan. On this night prayers were being held in Mosques and shrines across Kashmir which were attended by thousands of people.
