‘Shaan-e-Varmul’ honours unsung heroes

SRINAGAR, Jan 15: Baramulla today witnessed a celebration of talent and community service as the ‘Shaan-e-Varmul’ award ceremony recognized individuals who have significantly contributed to the district’s development.

Organized by the Dagger Division of Chinar Corps on Army Day, the event brought together dignitaries, achievers, and citizens to honor excellence across various sectors.
Awardees were selected through a meticulous nomination process involving over 13,000 votes from Baramulla’s civil society.
The event highlighted contributions in fields ranging from cultural preservation to education and healthcare.
Notable honorees included Nissar Ahmad Shah, aka “Nisar Azam,” for cultural preservation, Mehak Khursheed for promoting women’s entrepreneurship in baking, and Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat for his philanthropic efforts.
In education, Father Suresh Britto of St. Joseph’s School was lauded for shaping over 12,000 students, while Dr. Sarabjit Singh Chhibber received recognition for organizing free medical camps and surgeries for the underprivileged.
Baramulla’s youth also shone brightly. Momin Mehraj was awarded for bravery, saving lives during a fire, and Snowbar Akhter was honored for winning over 10 medals in martial arts at the national level.
Innovators Sheikh Anzar Amin and Shahida Bano received accolades for their groundbreaking contributions in science and technology.
The event also celebrated Baramulla’s rich culture, with a brilliant performance by the Chinar YUVA cultural group, renowned for choreographing the world-record-breaking Rouf dance involving over 10,000 girls last year.
Chief guests commended the honorees for their relentless dedication, which serves as an inspiration for future generations.
“Shaan-e-Varmul recognizes unsung heroes whose efforts inspire collective action for Baramulla’s progress,” remarked Prof. T.A. Chalkoo, while student Sabeena noted the eye-opening stories of the awardees.
