Sgr-Leh NH, Mughal road remain closed

Srinagar, Apr 21: After improvement in weather, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was re-opened for traffic this morning while Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal road remained closed for second consecutive day today.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic, Rural, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, said that Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was re-opened this morning for traffic after improvement in weather and clearance of landslides. The national highway was closed due to landslides and shooting stones at Panthal, Anokifal and Marog yesterday after incessant rains.
Srinagar-Leh road remained closed for second consecutive day today due to snowfall at Zojila pass and Minimarag. There was snow accumulation of 2.6 feet at Minimarag and 6 inches at Sonamarag and the Border Roads Organization cleared snow today but there are 5-6 slides at several places in Zojila area that are yet to be cleared. The snow clearance will continue tomorrow and once they are cleared the highway will be re-opened for traffic.
And in the meantime, police rescued the truck drivers and conductors who were trapped in snow in Drass today.
A police spokesman said that Kargil police received information that few truck drivers and conductors along with their vehicles had got trapped in snow covered Dropatikund area of Drass.
He said after receiving this information, a police party of Police Post Minimarag had embarked towards Dropatikund despite a difficult terrain and rescued the trapped drivers and conductors. The drivers were taken to Sub District Hospital Drass for checkup where doctors declared them stable,” he said
The Mughal road remained closed for second consecutive day today due to snowfall at Peer Ki Gali and landslides on Peer Ki Gali and Poonch portion of the road. The snow clearance was completed today but the land slides on Poonch side are yet to be cleared.
The Kupwara -Tangdhar, Kupwara-Machil and Kupwara- Keran roads are also closed due to snowfall for second consecutive day today despite snow clearance.
The Bandipora- Gurez road also remained closed for traffic for second consecutive day today due to fresh snow fall at Razdhan Top where over one feet of snow had accumulated yesterday.
