SGEJAC opposes change in office timings

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 9: State Government Employees Joint Action Committee (SGEJAC) has strongly opposed the decision of the Deputy Commissioners of Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Reasi for changing office timing  and warned the authorities to review the same otherwise employees will be left with the only option to go for agitation.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, senior trade unionists Subash  Verma, Sushil Sudan, Suresh Sharma and K C Dubey pointed out that summer timings in the Govt offices in  Jammu areas is from 8 am to 1.30 for the last over six decades. There is intense hot during summer months specially in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and this fact is well known to all. They questioned the wisdom of the DCs who have   chosen to change the office timing from 10 am to 4 pm and 9 am to 3pm, despite the fact that office timings in summer zone were having timing from 8 am to 1.30 pm.
They demanded that authorities should go for the review of the timings otherwise the EJAC will  be forced to come out on the roads. They also appealed the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter as it seems that some officers are hell bent to create problem in the smooth functioning of the Government. They said in case the Government wants to bring uniformity,  it should allow all the offices outside  the secretariat to have five day week and the employees from Jammu should be allowed for Tuesday break like Friday for offering prayers.
They also demanded that all the pending demands of the employees be addressed without any further day.
