JAMMU, Jan 1: State Forest Corporation (SFC) is poised to achieve the target of extracting 30 lakh cubic feet timber during this financial year, which is expected to fetch the Corporation about Rs 105 crore.
The information was given at a review meeting of the Corporation with the Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmed in the chair.
The meeting was informed that the SFC has set a target of extracting about 30 lakh cft timber and transportation upto sale depot, which will be achieved in full.
The Corporation has set a target to generate revenue of around Rs 105 crores upto March 2012-13 by selling 20 lakh cft timber.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister underscored the need to ensure distribution of timber to the people in time and asked the Forest Department to allot requisite quantity of timber to SFC in the month of April every year so that its extraction was completed as early as possible.
Mian Altaf said that the first and foremost duty of the SFC was to meet the timber demand of the local consumers, adding that it must be ensured that only genuine people are given timber as per the set norms and procedures. He asked the senior officers of the Corporation to gear up its men and machinery and work in close coordination to make it more profitable. He also called for taking regular review of the achievement of targets at different levels to improve the profitibility of the Corporation and making its working more transparent.
Earlier, the Managing Director of the Corporation, Abay Kumar informed that the Corporation has supplied 3.06 lakh cft of timber in Kashmir region during the current fiscal so far, which is more than 100% of the assigned target, whereas 0.548 lakh cft timber was supplied to various sale depots in Jammu region.
Among others Commi-ssioner Secretary, Forests, Aijaz Iqbal, Principal Chief Conservator Forests, Vinod Ranjan, Chief Conservator Forests, Jammu, Ravi Kaisar, Chief Conservator Forests, Kashmir, Manzoor Ahmed, Conservator Forests, Chenab, M. M. Gupta, Conservator Forests Working Plan, Vasu Yadave, Conservator Forest, North Circle, Farooq Geelani and General Manager were present in the meeting.
