Refer news item, ‘Guv promulgates ordinances to protect children from sexual violence’ DE May 18, 2018.
The much needed legal recourse to combat increasing sexual violence against children has finally come out in the shape of ‘The Jammu and Kashmir Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018”, and ‘The Jammu and Kashmir protection of children from Sexual Violence, 2018’ ordinance. This ordinance will imbue a sense of security among parents who feel much concerned about the safety of their children in view of a series of incident that took place across the nation.
Though it is ok to have a stringent law to deal with this crime, more than it, it is necessary that society introspects why such incidents take place in the first instance? It is observed that there is rapid degeneration of moral and ethical values in the society. These values safeguarded the interests of a society to a large extent.
There is urgent need to reshape the social structure so as to ensure that each individual finds a safe and dignified place in the society.
