Several NRI scientists willing to return: Jitendra Singh

NEW DELHI, July 23: Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, MoS, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Space and Atomic Energy today said new initiatives undertaken by his ministry include a successful attempt to be more inclusive in order to engage certain eminent scientists who had been some how left out of the mainstream during the last several decades and optimistic outcome of this initiative is that several NRI scientists have sent signals about their willingness to return back to India.
Dr Singh was replying to a starred question in the Lok Sabha today. He also referred this initiatives within last two months to encourage and support young scientific talent and he cited the example of 20 young students selected from across the country on merit basis who were sent last month to work with some renowned nobel laureates abroad.
Dr Jitendra Singh informed the House about various measures contemplated for the promotion and growth of scientific research in the country including successive increase in plan allocations for scientific departments, setting up of new institutions for science education and research, creation of centres of excellence for research, establishment of new and attractive fellowships, strengthening infrastructure for R&D in universities and above all, encouraging in a big way public partnership in Research and Development.
