JAMMU, June 2: Several areas of Jammu have plunged into darkness since last night after the Receiving Station near Government Medical College Jammu developed a snag.
People had to sweat for the entire day in sweltering heat as chances of restoration of power supply seemed totally bleak.
According to sources two panels of Receiving Station at Medical College busted at 8pm due to a fault disrupting power supply in Rajpura, Rehari, Bakshi Nagar and Sarwal and some adjoining localities.
Sources said the delay in restoration of power supply for over 24 hours was that the engineers and other staff could not locate the fault up to this afternoon. The fault was located at 3pm and the engineers and staff members are on the job since then to restore the panels and resume the power supply to these localities.
They said the Chief Minister specially visited Jammu to take the stock of the situation and ensure the proper power and water supply during the Summer so that the people are not put to hardships. But despite her efforts the situation has not improved, they added.
However, when contacted Chief Engineer, M&RE Rahul Gupta said that the problem was due to burning of two panels at Bakshi Nagar Receiving Station and the engineers are on job to restore the same. He expressed the hope that power supply will be restored by late to night.
In addition to these localities the power supply remained affected in various other areas of Jammu including Gurah Keran, Muthi, Dina Nagar, Bantalab, Barnai, Kothian Netar etc during last night putting the people to worst problems.
