JAMMU, Nov 15: A seven-day Jyotish Training Workshop was inaugurated today at Central Sanskrit University, Ranbir Campus, Jammu.
Sham Lal Sharma, Vice President, UT BJP and former Minister was the chief guest on the occasion, while KK Sharma, Director, Agriculture, Jammu, was the distinguished Guest. Mahant Rohit Shastri, President, Shri Kailakh Jyotish Evam Vaidik Sansthan Trust was the special guest.
The inaugural function was presided over by Prof Madan Mohan Jha, Director, Central Sanskrit University, Ranbir Campus, Jammu.
The workshop is being organized jointly by Central Sanskrit University, Ranbir Campus, Jammu and Shri Kailakh Jyotish evam Vaidik Sansthan Trust, Jammu in online and offline mode.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Sharma highlighted the significance of Jyotish for the common man, and said that knowledge of Jyotish is required at every step of human life. He expressed the confidence that the students as well as various sections of the society shall benefit immensely from the workshop.
In his presidential address, Prof Madan Mohan Jha said that as a Sanskrit University it is our first responsibility to spread awareness about the various fields of Sanskrit learning and motivate the society to take an active interest in promotion and propagation of Sanskrit Language and Literature.
In his address, Mahant Rohit Shastri said that Jyotish developed in the ancient times as an attempt to calculate time. In the Vaidic times, the auspicious time for performing yajnas etc. was determined on the basis of astrological calculations, he added.
Earlier, Prof. Prabhat Kumar Mahapatra, Head of the Department of Jyotish, welcomed the guests, whereas the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Sunita.
Prabodh Sharma, General Secretary, Trust, Rakesh Gandotra, Secretary, Trust, Ashok Magotra, Uttam Chand Sharma, Prof Manoj Kumar Mishra, Dr Kailash Chander Dash, Dr Ghanshyam Mishra, Sharat Chander Sharma, Dr Ram Dass and other members of the faculty and civil society also graced the function with their presence.
