Settle cases of workers who have donated land to PHE: Tarigami

SRINAGAR, Sept 7:Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department must consider engagement of hundreds of land donors, who had donated land in various parts of J&K for setting up water reservoirs, filtration plants, collection tanks, sumps, sluice valve chambers and quarters from 2000-2017.
This was stated by senior CPI (M) senior leader and former Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami in a statement issued here, today.
He said the land donors who were engaged as casual labourers are not being given effect from the day they started working. It is the responsibility of the Government to give them retrospective effect. They have not only donated their precious land but are also performing their duties regularly, he added.
CPI (M) leader said similarly, cases of hundreds of land donors have not been considered. It is the responsibility of the Government to provide them with engagement orders and those who are already engaged, their wages be released.
He said more than 850 helpers to supervisors working in Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in Jammu and Kashmir have not been paid the wages for the last two years putting them to extreme hardships.
He said these helpers are working on meager wages of Rs 2450 per month and even those are not being paid to them on time. The deplorable attitude of the concerned Department towards these employees is highly unfortunate. These helpers who have greatly contributed in making the scheme viable in J&K have been pushed to the wall and the Government seems to be insensitive towards their well-being.
Tarigami said many of these workers have crossed the upper age limit and now face a critical situation of losing their livelihood. The Department should ensure that their livelihood is not put at stake and initiate urgent measures for absorbing them in the scheme. Not only the J&K Government should regularise these helpers but it should also pay them incentives as is being done by other states.
