JAMMU, Sept 7: Former Health Minister and General Secretary J&K PCC Shabir Ahmed Khan has taken strong exception to the move of the State Government to set up the newly sanctioned Government Medical College Rajouri at a place far-away from the district headquarters, which would deprive the most of the population of the twin border districts from the facilities.
In a statement, Khan reacted strongly to the move of the State Government to set up the GMC Hospital sanctioned by the previous UPA Government for Rajouri, at an inappropriate place, quite away from the district headquarters Rajouri, for the vested political and other interests of certain ruling leaders.
He added that the Government Medical College for Rajouri was sanctioned, in view of the hot persuasions, by the representatives and leaders of the Congress party with the UPA Government especially with the then Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad. It was planned to be opened at Rajouri proper, in order to cater to the needs of all parts of Rajouri as well Poonch districts, he stated.
Khan maintained that shifting it to establish at a place quite away from district headquarters and from the highway connecting Poonch to Jammu, would defeat the very purpose of having this kind of institution in the area.
He demanded that Government should immediately review the decision and set up the proposed GMC Hospital at district headquarters Rajouri. He warned the Government of serious consequences if it decides to go ahead with the ill-advised and politically motivated decision.
