Srinagar, Sept 6: Feeling crackdown heat, Valley’s top three separatists today announced that they will hold protest outside National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in Delhi on September 9 and court arrest to denounce agency’s raids.
The separatist leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Yasin Malik today said that they have decided to fly to Delhi on Saturday and present themselves for arrest in front of NIA headquarters. Mirwaiz and Malik made this announcement during a hurriedly called presser in the compound of Jama Masjid here this afternoon while Geelani spoke over phone.
“Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and I will go to Delhi on Saturday and present ourselves before NIA for arrest. Keep doors of Tihar jail open, we (separatists) are coming,” said Yasin Malik during the press conference. On the occasion, Mirwaiz and Malik accused NIA of harassment and defamation.
Mirwaiz alleged the Government of India is using the NIA to harass the separatist leaders, the businessmen and the student community, which has been at the forefront of protests. The separatist duo said GoI is “following a policy of coercion, defamation and intimidation in Kashmir as it does not want to address the actual issue”.
“It (GoI) wants to change the whole narrative…it wants to defame and malign the leadership through personal attack on their integrity by spreading viscous lies about them and distorting, manipulating facts,” the separatists alleged. On the occasion, the separatist held a sit-in which was also attended by representatives of trade and religious bodies.
