Senior Paediatrician among 344 test +ve for COVID-19 in Kashmir

Staff of News channel, diagnostic lab, 2 dozen health workers positive

SRINAGAR, June 7: Entire staff of a leading national news channel and a diagnostic laboratory and over two dozen health workers including a child specialist were among 344 people who tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir taking the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 4087.
Entire staff of a leading national English language news channel tested positive today. A cameraperson of the news channel residing in Bagh-e-Mehtab area of Srinagar had tested positive two days ago. He was admitted to Kashmir Nursing Home at Gupkar in Srinagar and its Bureau Chief from Kupwara presently living in Bagh-e-Mehtab Srinagar, Engineer resident of Babdem Srinagar and OB Technician from Nagbal Ganderbal were sent to quarantine and they tested positive today. The office of the news channel was already sealed by the administration two days ago.
And entire staff members of a leading diagnostic laboratory based at Karan Nagar Srinagar tested positive today. The laboratory has been sealed by the administration today.
And Head of the Department of Paediatrics at GB Pant Children’s hospital in Srinagar is among half a dozen doctors who tested positive today. The other doctors are from GB Pant Children’s hospital in Srinagar, Government Medical College Anantnag, SMHS hospital Srinagar and Super Speciality Hospital Sheerin Bagh Srinagar. Besides these two dozen staff of these hospitals also tested positive.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS hospital, Dr Farooq Jan, said that out of 2861 samples processed at the virology Lab, 58 tested positive. The positive cases include 33 from Baramulla, 7 from Anantnag, 6 from Kupwara, 5 from Kulgam, 3 each from Srinagar and Budgam districts and one from Shopian.
Among those positive in Baramulla district, 19 are from Khanpora and they include 18 men and one woman.
Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina, Dr Reyaz Untoo told Excelsior that out of 493 samples processed at the hospital, 3 tested positive including a 32 year old female from Chatabal and 34 and 38 years old males from Budgam.
Sources said that today 283 samples tested positive at the CD hospital lab which include 9 policemen, 3 prisoners, around 30 health workers and 9 pregnant ladies. Last night, 253 samples tested positive at the hospital including over a dozen health workers and 51 pregnant ladies.
A 38-year-old resident of Kolkata and a tailor by profession died last night at SMHS hospital in Srinagar and his samples tested positive for the COVID-19 today. With his death, the Corona positive patients death toll in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 41 including 36 from Kashmir and five from Jammu.
