JAMMU, Apr 28: Semifinals position has been cleared in the ongoing Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament, being played at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, here.
In the first quarterfinal played today, New Gurdaspur Hockey Club outclassed GNN Hockey Club by 3 goals to nil (3-1), while second quarterfinal was won by Khalsa Warriors Amritsar, beating Baramulla Hockey Club by three goals to one (3-1). The Third quarterfinal was played between Pathankot XI and BSF Jammu in which Pathankot XI defeated BSF by five goals to one (5-1).
The last encounter between J&K Police and Hiranagar Hockey Club was played with spectacular stick work and ball control of highest level.
Finally, J&K Police won the match by defeating Hianagar Hockey Club by two goals to zero (2-0)
Two semifinals are slated for tomorrow. The first semifinal will be played between Pathankot XI and J&K Police at 3.30 pm, while in second semifinal Khalsa Warriors Amritsar will take on New Gurdaspur Hockey Club at 5 pm.
Zorawar Singh, General Secretary Press Club Jammu, Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu and S. Swarn Singh, ARTO Jammu were the dignitaries in today’s matches.
The matches were officiated by S. Amarjit Singh, Suhail Ahmad and Karanjeet Singh. Other prominent persons who were present included S. Balvinder Singh RTI Activist, S. Waryam Singh, S. Manmohan Singh, S. Iqbal Singh, S. Narinder Singh IAF, S. Janak Singh, S. Harbans Singh, S. Amarjit Singh, S. Beant Singh, S. Amrik Singh Sasan, S. Beant Singh, S. Rajinder Singh Soodan and S. Paramjit Singh.
