JAMMU, Apr 5: Chenab Valley has not only produced towering Urdu poets and prose writers but also has produced towering politicians, academicians and intellectuals and poets who have contributed a lot for the development of Urdu language and literature not only in the State but also in the whole sub-continent.
These views were expressed by the speakers during inaugural sessions of the two- day national seminar on the topic “Urdu language and literature in the Chenab Valley” here today.
The seminar is being organized by the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Kishtwar Campus and Casmir Qutub Khana Jammu.
The inaugural function was presided over by Prof Sageer Afraheim of Aligarh Muslim University while Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of JU, was the chief guest on the occasion. Noted literatures of the sub-continent, M Y Taing presented key note address in which he in detail threw light on the literary contribution of the poets and writers of Chenab valley.
In his address, Prof R D Sharma said that such type of activities provides a platform to the budding writers who could display their creativity on the platform.
Earlier, in his welcome address, HoD Urdu and Director Kishtwar Campus, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik informed that the papers, being presented in the seminar, would be published in a book form so that a literary history of Chenab Valley could be established.
The proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed while vote of thanks was presented by Dr Chaman Lal.
Later in the Academic session, six papers were presented by Naz Bhaderwahi, Aseer Kishtwari, Manshoor Banhali, Abdul Rehman Natnu, Tanveer Bhaderwahi, Dr Asif Malik and the 1st Academic session was presided over by Prof Shehnaz Anjum, Bashir Bhaderwahi and Prof V D Singh.
In the evening an Urdu Mushaira in collaboration with Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Jammu was also organized in which various towering poets of Chenab Valley entertained the audience by reciting their Urdu poetry.
