Seminar on Human Rights held

JAMMU, Dec 18: White Knight Corps organised a Human Rights seminar today at Sangha Auditorium at Akhnoor.
Centered on the theme ‘Human Rights Issues and their Impact on the Security Forces- The Road Ahead’, the Seminar was an effort by the Army to increase awareness about issues related to Human Rights and generate new ideas through mutual exchange of experiences and thoughts of eminent participants at the seminar.
The seminar commenced today with the welcome note being delivered by General Office Commanding HQ 10 Infantry Division followed by the keynote address by Lieutenant General RR Nimbhorkar, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps.
Corps Commander highlighted the methodology with which the Army approaches Counter Insurgency and how upholding of Human Rights fits in the paradigm. Speaking of J&K in specific, the Corps Commander stated that as the ground situation has improved, army operations have evolved in sync with a refinement in Army’s thinking, operating procedures and rules of engagement.
The eminent speakers at the seminar included Justice Cyriac Joseph, Acting Chairman of NHRC, Nitin Gokhale, renowned strategic affairs analyst, Vrinda Grover, HR activist and an eminent lawyer, Lieutenant General SA Hasnain, former General Office Commanding HQ 15 Corps and Colonel (Dr) Ranjit Singh, Joint Security NHRC.  The eminent participants shared their views and experiences with the audience.
The seminar was a testimony to a large number of inter-related issues pertaining to Human Rights that were deliberated upon by the speakers. The audience of approx 500 people was drawn from a wide spectrum to include officers from the Army, BSF, CRPF and J&K Police and a large gathering of students of various age groups from different schools and Law colleges from Jammu, Akhnoor and Katra.
The proceedings were followed by a discussion and open house. All in all, the seminar highlighted the Army’s unabated efforts in engaging all sections of the society in their endeavour to generate awareness about Human Rights.
The seminar culminated with the closing address by Lieutenant General NPS Hira, Chief of Staff Northern Command.
