JAMMU, Feb 5: A two-day national seminar entitled “Assessment and Evaluation: Recent trends and Challenges” began today in the Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu under the ‘Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching’ (PMMMNMTT) scheme of MHRD.
During the inaugural, CUJ Vice Chancellor Prof Ashok Aima stressed on synergy building among the intellectuals of the various educational institutes and character building in the students that need to be started from the school level. He added that the ecosystem of intellectual development needs to be focused in the schools. He stressed that young minds need to be trained for thinking new possibilities.
Dr J N Baliya, HoD Educational Studies, CUJ, impressed upon the audience about the need of the quality assessment and evaluation in educational process.
The Co-ordinator of the seminar, Dr Ritu Bakshi, said that need of the hour was to revisit the present practices of the assessment and evaluation for quality based solutions to the whole Education system of the country.
Prof Amit Kouts, Head and Dean, Deptt of Eduaction, GNDU, delivered key note address and pointed out the issues and challenges in the Assessment and evaluation which is the centre of the education process. Further, he focused on the development of the quality assessment tool; and significant role of parent as stakeholder in the entire process of education.
The plenary session was chaired by Prof Kiran Deep Kour, Department of Education, Punjabi University, Patiala. The key speakers in the session were Prof Vishal Sood, Head and Dean, Department of Education, CUHP; Dr Sudhir Singh, Joint Secretary, JKBOSE; Dr Vipin Verma, Principal, GDC Udhampur and Dr J N Baliya.
During the technical sessions, the delegates presented their papers on the respective themes. The sessions were chaired and co-chaired by Prof Hemant Lata Sharma, Dr Raj Singh, Prof Darshana Sharma, Prof Deepak Pathania, Prof R K Mahajan, Prof Deepa Kouts, Prof Govind Singh, Dr Yashwant Singh and Dr Bhawana Arora, Dr Ajay Singh, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Deepti Malhotra, Suresh Gouria, Dr Anju Thappa, Dr Arvind respectively. The sessions were co-ordinated by Dr Baliya, Dr Bakshi, Dr Kiran, Dr Aman and Dr Asit. Dr Aman delivered the formal vote of thanks.
